If you are like many of us, you would love house plants in your apartment, but they always seem to die!  Here are some common mistakes when caring for house plants.  Avoid them and you too can have an apartment with beautiful indoor plants.

Selecting the Wrong Plant – It may be beautiful and your neighbor in your West Hills apartment might see it is easy to grow, but unless you have the same light or conditions, it might not grow in your apartment.
 
Improper Watering – Most people wait until the soil is dry and then water.  The problem is that dry soil will not absorb the water and it will run through to the saucer, offering no benefits to your plant.  Every plant is different, but as a general rule, the water should never be dry.  You will get to know your plants after a while, some may require watering every week, some a bit more or a bit less.
 
Not Feeding Your Plant – Plants need periodic nutrition added to the soil.  Use an indoor plant fertilizer once every three months.
 
The Wrong Pot – Just because your plant came in a certain sized pot does not mean a) that it is the right size or b) that it hasn’t grown too large for its original pot.  Most plants need a bit of breathing room for their roots to grow.
